Der Radetzky

Der Radetzky (Derby/Radetzky) was one of our favorite sires. He passed away in the summer of 2002, at an advanced age and will be greatly missed. Happily, his owner Vanessa Carlson has frozen semen from her wonderful old stallion, so his legacy has not ended quite yet.

Der Radetzky competed at the high levels of both dressage and show jumping. He was a homozygous gray that stamped his progeny not just with his color, but also with the marvelous Der Radetzky willingness and bold attitude. We have been privileged to own three Der Radetzky youngsters. Each had excellent gaits and wonderful minds.

Der Radetzky’s sire Derby was one of the better sons of Duellant. His dam Schatznorne produced two full sisters to Derby – both states premium mares who each produced their own stallion sons.

See Destinie’s and Dazzler's pages for examples of what Der Radetzky produces.

Dacapo – Our first Der Radetzky

Dacapo by Der Radetzky with Wolfgang Scherzer

Dacapo, our first DR offspring, bred by Doug Mankovich, ridden by Wolfgang Scherzer

Dacapo was bred by Doug Mankovich. Unfortunately, he grew too tall for me. He is now owned and loved by Elizabeth O’Donnell. While I still owned him, Dacapo (Keeper) was reserve champion USDF All Breeds (Hanoverian) Training Level, and USDF Horse of the Year with a Young Rider (Alex Robertson) at Training Level. It was Keeper’s excellence in every detail, and the fact that this fine horse was bred in the states that led me to breed my own Hanoverian horses.
